Thus should be the finale of every photo hike: with a view of transcendent beauty like this, the clouds purpling with sunset, waves crashing against the rocks, and a little hill covered chockablock with quizzical, cubical houses painted the same colors as the sunset behind them. I had just hiked the five-mile Cinque Terre trail, from Vernazza, and took a little detour at the end to take a look at the cemetery above Manarola. And that's where this scene unfolded before me…..Click, click, click went my camera for the next half hour or so…..This is the best from the card I nearly loaded with photos.
And then to walk down to the village, to eat dinner (octopus salad with fresh bread and a bottle of vino rosso!) with the locals in the little restaurant that you can actually see in this photo (it's the well lit building at the bottom, with the boats hauled up next to it) is a finale more than any hard-working photographer can ever hope for. And sometimes it happens.
This image prints beautifully up to 24×36". I've printed several at that size, with no loss of detail. However, 30×40, not so much….
