Kyle Buchanan is an architect and founding director of Archio, known for designing community focused affordable housing with Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Community Groups.
Under Kyle’s joint leadership Archio has been recognised for a number of awards including being shortlisted for BD Young Architect of the Year in 2016, winning the Inside Housing ‘Best Affordable Housing’ Award and being shortlisted for a Housing Design Award in 2019. Kyle was RIBA ‘South West project architect of the year’ 2018 and named as part of the AJ ‘40 under 40’ in 2020. He is an RIBA Conservation Registrant with experience of working on Listed Buildings and in heritage contexts. He is a member of the RIBA Expert Advisory Group for Housing. Kyle has been a member of Kingston and Sutton Design Review Panels for three years and has 7 years’ experience of teaching architecture.
He has run design units for undergraduate and postgraduate architecture courses at the Bartlett and been a visiting critic at schools including London Met, Cambridge and Oxford Brookes. He has pursued his interest in working with communities by volunteering on the boards of community led-housing groups and local charities in London.
