Areas of Expertise
Advocacy, Policy development, Research
I am an urbanist who has worked across research, planning policy and local government regeneration programmes for several years, primarily in London and the South East.
Working across public and private sector urban development, I have development a wide range of expertise including place-based social value, workspace planning, high streets, cultural and creative industries, social infrastructure and industrial land masterplanning. While at the Greater London Authority I worked in a first-of-its-kind role between the Mayor’s Social Integration and Regeneration teams. I strengthened social policy outcomes of urban regeneration programmes through developing evidence, measures and approaches specific to city spaces, including leading the delivery of the first-ever Social Integration Design Lab and the commissioning of legacy programmes, including Design Council’s ‘Improving Social Integration Outcomes’ work. I initiated and managed a large-scale (£100k), cross-departmental research inquiry into social infrastructure and social integration which proved only more urgent in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
I was a member of Regeneration team’s EDI Champion’s Group and co-authored the Mayor’s ‘Supporting Diversity Handbook’, the GLA’s tool for advocacy and action on the barriers to EDI in the architecture sector. As one of only two Associates at architecture practice We Made That, I oversaw the research department including client liaison, research approaches and team management. I managed in-depth studies of places of work, local economies, creative industries, and the social value of places, to inform the latest London Plan, masterplans, city-wide planning policies, economic development and regeneration strategies. In 2020, I relocated to Boston. I am working as a Policy Fellow for city council campaigns focusing on built environment policy areas including housing, cultural infrastructure and neighbourhood resilience. I also continue to work as a consultant for UK-based organisations on a range of design proposals, urban research and policy development. I hope to continue this relationship with the UK built environment sector while expanding my international experience.
