Peter Garitsis Urban Designer & Masterplanner Peter is an experienced Urban Designer in the Masterplanning, Design and Conservation Team at Swindon Borough Council providing expert design advice on a range of large-scale development projects and design-related policy guidance.
Peter has worked in Urban Design, Planning and Architectural practices in South Africa and the UK before joining Swindon Borough Council in 2007. Since then he has worked hard at raising design quality expectations in Swindon through a range of initiatives including: design policy, design guides, development briefs, masterplans, developer negotiation, design review, design training and appearing as expert witness at public inquiries. Peter is part of an energetic team that work proactively with developers early on in the process to ensure strategic award-winning development projects such as Swindon’s ‘Tadpole Garden Village’, the Old Railway Quarter and Wichelstowe District Centre achieve a step change in placemaking quality for future generations.
Peter co-wrote the Swindon Residential Design Guide which was short-listed for the 2017 Urban Design Group’s Public Sector award. Peter is a Recognised Practitioner of the Urban Design Group, a member of the Creating Excellence South West Design Review Panel and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and a Master’s Degree in City Planning & Urban Design from the University of Cape Town.
