Ros Southern is a chartered landscape architect and member of the Landscape Institute, and has been based the north east of England since her graduation from Newcastle University in 1990.
She is a founding director of Southern Green Ltd, a north east practice responsible for a number of award-winning projects across the UK ranging from city centre public realm to historic parkland restoration. Her portfolio of projects ranges from pubic realm strategy, urban regeneration masterplanning and design codes to public parks, historic landscapes, healthcare and higher education projects. Ros is passionate about landscape- led masterplanning and the integration of green infrastructure and enhanced biodiversity into development. She also has a particular interest in working collaboratively with artists to seek creative and integrated design solutions. She also has particular experience in landscape and visual assessment and is an expert witness with public inquiry experience.
Ros is a member of the DesignNE Design Review Panel, a Professional Practice Examiner and Pathway to Chartership mentor for the Landscape Institute, and has taught landscape architecture, urban design and architectural students as a visiting tutor for many years at Newcastle University, and was an external examiner at Edinburgh College of Art.
