Tim works as an urban designer focused on developing regeneration projects and masterplanning.

He is now developing a specialism in historic landscapes, particularly connected to ancient and veteran trees.

Originally qualified as an architect, he worked in Planning Departments as a Conservation and Design officer. In 2003 he joined the first UK Urban Regeneration Company, established in Cornwall, developing many masterplanning and regeneration projects. In 2010 became urban design manager for Cornwall Development Company, promoting the design agenda in many European funded projects such as the early development of Kresen Kernow and the Hall for Cornwall both exemplar projects. Six years ago he turned freelance, continuing to work with private and public sector collaborators on a range of masterplanning, historic building conservation and project management work. Tim has been a member of the Cornwall Design Review Panel for many years and is an associate lecturer at Falmouth University School of Architecture.

Tim is now developing a long-standing interest in historic landscapes, especially the biodiversity and cultural value of ancient and veteran trees. He is an active member of the Ancient Tree Forum and lead SW verifier with the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree Inventory. As well as working with local volunteers, he is currently undertaking specialist work in surveying and parkland and other historic landscapes. The key aim is to identify the value of special trees and understand how they fit and contribute into the wider landscape, its heritage and its biodiversity. Then he will develop proposals for the management of those trees, the land and its uses around them, to ensure they have a continued role and are protected for future generations.
