I have combined working as an Independent Consulting Engineer and Planning Inspector since 2016.
As an Infrastructure Procurement Consultant I provide strategic commissioning leadership on a wide range of infrastructure schemes, including £multi-million new roads and railway schemes, smaller infrastructure projects and professional services procurements. I am a Chartered civil engineer and qualified project manager. I am also a Planning Inspector examining Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects for the Planning Inspectorate; recently as a single examiner examining an application to build a £150m dual carriageway. This included climate; cultural heritage; emissions; landscape & visual, noise & vibration; socio-economic effects; transportation & traffic; and water environment issues. Immediately prior to this I worked for an international company providing consulting, design, construction and operations services. Roles have included: delivery manager for a MoD transformation programme; programme manager for a County Council; project management consultant responsible for training and development programmes and overall project performance in the UK and overseas; project manager for land development schemes. Further roles have included: secondary school teacher; business consultant (water company); asset planner and engineer (water companies); project manager (consulting engineer).
My time teaching English & Drama fulfilled a long term desire to develop my artistic and teaching skills further. I have subsequently used the experience gained in training and development roles in my commercial work, as well as in my voluntary work as children’s worker and Primary School mentor. I have particular skills in programme planning and leadership; developing strategies; business case development; achieving business objectives; project management and control; analysing management information to deliver planned benefits; people management; mentoring and coaching; business process improvement; clear communication to teams; influencing internal and external stakeholders. My sector experience is particularly strong in infrastructure delivery (engineering and planning).
